Have things felt particularly intense for you since August 5th? You’re in good company! Aug 5th kicked off the eclipse window that DOESN’T END until September 3rd. This window spans a week before the solar eclipse on August 12th, and a week after the lunar eclipse on August 27th. Even when the eclipse isn’t visible to us, the energetic alignment of the Earth, Moon and Sun still packs a big impact on us all.

When these alignments occur, karmic chapters close. We eat the fruits that we have sown, and clear the ground for a new round. It is a time to reflect, realign, and prepare. The veil between worlds is thinner, and spiritual action such as meditation, breathwork, and deep listening within are most potent.

As mentioned at the Sophia Unfolds Venus/Aphrodite Temple, Venus just reached that special point in the sky known as her greatest eastern elongation - the highest point of her reign as the evening star. And now, she is beginning her trek down to the underworld, and she’s taking us with her.

The 3rd brightest light in the natural sky has been watched, celebrated, and hailed as sacred since time immemorial. Various cultures in the ancient world called the bright white planet by the names of the Goddess: Inanna, Ishtar, Astarte, Aphrodite, and Venus. The relationship between the Earth, the Sun, and Venus outlines a mandala of harmony. This is part of the reason why Venus has long been thought of as the planetary ruler of relationships. Take a look at this diagram of the intricate and balanced ballet of the heavens—

Venus has phases of waxing and waning, just like the Moon. And when she is in her full and new phases, she is hidden from the night sky, neither rising before the Sun as the morning star, nor setting after the Sun as the evening star, but in conjunction with the Sun, either between the Earth and the Sun (new phase) or on the far side of the Sun (full phase). The complex apparent movements of the planet Venus can best be described in the legendary story of Inanna’s Descent.

In brief—

The Queen of Heaven (evening star) descends to the underworld (greatest eastern elongation and waning through retrograde), is stripped of her sacred adornments one by one, and naked and humbled, she hangs dead for three days (new phase). Then, she resurrects and ascends (morning star) to a new and purified power, stronger and clearer for having gone through the alchemical journey through the underworld.

Like all truly great stories, the main character reveals the journey of all souls, through the underworld of the unknown within. Of course this story is not finished yet. But those chapters are for another turn of the wheel.

At this moment in the journey of the Kosmos, we are in the eclipse window, and we are initiating Inanna’s descent. In this time of descent, we are called to drop our egoic pretense, and get humbly honest with ourselves. If it is time to be stripped bare, and indeed it is, it is wise to start releasing our armor deliberately and willingly, for the universe will nonetheless complete it’s purpose, and resistance tends to make it a most uncomfortable journey.

There is nothing to fear in karma, nothing to fear in the darkness of the deep unknown within. We carry the sacred light of awareness of the rhythms of the Kosmos, and we have been infinitely prepared to dance with these rhythms, in humble and ecstatic harmony.

Let us journey forth, and discover that which we’ve been as of yet, afraid to witness. I salute you each in your sacred journey, and I thank you for your brave path.
